An associate of mine recently witnessed an all-too-common scene: four people at a restaurant table, deep in conversation . . . on four different cell phones. Think of it! Good friends finally come together—and proceed to stay miles apart!

“Too much technology!” my associate said. And I agree. Rather than giving us more time to be where we are, new gadgets can tug our attention in more directions.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. In your work, in your home, in your leisure time—be sure to be present in the moment. Focus on the people you are with. Love and serve them. Focus on the tasks at hand. Pay attention. Be where you are! It's the high calling of our daily work.
