Billy Graham, CEO
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
When we think of Billy Graham, we tend to think of him as preacher and pastor. But Billy was also CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, and he influenced many institutions. He cast the broad vision that led a worldwide movement.
Jim Collins, in his book Good to Great, points out that the most effective CEOs are not ego driven. The world's finest leaders, Collins says, "combine extreme personal humility and fierce resolve."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. We don't picture Mr. Graham as a CEO—because his corporate style did exemplify humility, and it deserves a closer look. The powerful leadership of the man the world still calls "Billy" points not to himself but to the high calling of our daily work.
He has showed you, O man, what is good.
And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
(Mic. 6:8)
