The Light in My Father’s Eyes

When Steve’s mother died of cancer, his dad fell into a dark depression.
Six months later, Steve took an extended leave from work to tour Europe with his father. For the first time since WWII, his father visited the town that sheltered him when he’d been shot down. They also viewed the U. S. cemetery in Normandy, France, then drove to Berlin.
Back at home, Steve’s friends asked him, “Of all the things you saw on your trip, what was the best?”
Steve answered, “The best thing I saw was the light return to my father’s eyes.”
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Life’s one real priority is to do the right thing. And the right thing between job and family demands wisdom and flexibility . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
