State Trooper

Even as a four-year-old, Bruce was a daredevil. That was the year a New York State Trooper showed up at Bruce’s family home with the youngster and his tricycle in tow. Bruce had been riding his three-wheeler down the Interstate off-ramp.
Did his early escapades lead Bruce to become a state trooper? Who knows? But Bruce joined the force and rose rapidly—commanding the same men under whom he had once served. One of them once grumbled affectionately, “I shoulda left you on the Interstate when you were four.”
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Bruce gained rank over a much older trooper without losing his respect. The relationship between Bruce and his former “rescuer” is a beautiful example of mutual respect—in the high calling of our daily work.
Jesus called them together and said, "You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all."
