Video / Produced by The High Calling

Over the past few months, we’ve featured several incredible short films from our friends at Deidox. More than any other films and videos we’ve seen recently, the people at Deidox understand that each person’s work is a high calling in which they can serve God.

We’ve heard from a public school teacher, a doctor, and a mother. Today, you can take five minutes to learn about Deon, a police officer who works in “one of the most dangerous, overlooked, marginalized places in America . . .”

Questions for personal reflection, online discussion, or small groups:

  • Deon says, “This is where I work. This is where God called me to be. And I believe that with all my heart.” Do you feel called to your work? Why or why not?
  • What is the difference between being called and feeling called? Why do you think some jobs are lifted up as being more noble than others? Consider this statement: All honorable work done with excellence gives glory to God. Do you believe this?
  • Deon says, “People see you for who you are, not what you are. They know I’m doing what I’m doing… because I’m for them.” When you are at work, who are you for?
  • Deon says, “People always ask me, ‘How can you work here? How can you sit here all the time?’ My faith in God keeps me from packing up and getting out of town. This is my assignment.” What assignment has God given you for this day and this week?
  • We encourage you to visit Deidox.com for more bonus features about Deon, including a small-group discussion guide and two additional videos about drugs on the street and justice.
