I took the day off from everything—work, writing, and the computer—and told the kids, “It’s your day. We’ll do whatever you want.” We had lots of fun as we said goodbye to summer. One of the day’s activities was to release the butterflies we recently watched emerge from their cocoons. We said goodbye to them, as well.
